The former Ghanaian international, has reacted to calls for his immediate sacking following the Black Stars’ disappointing pre- World Cup loss against Austria.
The Black Stars suffered a 5-1 defeat to Austria in Vienna on Friday, in the first of two pre-World Cup friendly matches. The Black Stars performed well in the first half but conceded four goals in the second to Ralf Rangnick’s side.
Some Ghanaian fans and journalists, who were not impressed with the team’s performance, have since staged serious calls for the gaffer’s sacking ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking after the game, Addo, however, stated that he’s focused on his job, stating that whatever people say about his dismissal as a normal considering the fact that he side were heavily whipped by the Austrian team.
‘‘This is the job of a coach. When we lose, people are mainly trying to bring you down. I don’t really read too many things. Even if we win, I’m not too much into social media or reading anything. Whatever people say, its normal, especially on an evening like this when the team didn’t play well and we also lost.” Addo said at the pos-match presser.
The match against Ralf Rangnick’s Austrian side saw the Black Stars hold their own in the first half, but a strong second-half surge from Austria, which yielded four goals, ultimately secured a decisive victory. Despite a consolation goal from captain Jordan Ayew, the result has given coach Otto Addo and his squad plenty to reflect on.
The team is now expected to shift their focus to one of the world’s footballing giants. Ghana is scheduled to face Germany in Stuttgart on Monday, March 30, 2026.
This fixture represents another significant test for Otto Addo’s squad as they fine-tune their preparations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Mexico, Canada, and the United States of America in June.
The Black Stars will hold training sessions in Germany on both Saturday and Sunday before confronting the four-time World Champions on Monday.
