Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has expressed concern over the possible absence of Mohammed Kudus from Ghana’s squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 25-year-old midfielder is currently recovering from injury, raising fears that he could miss the tournament in North America.
Speaking in an interview with Channel One TV, Gyan admitted the Black Stars would struggle to replace the creativity and attacking influence Kudus brings to the team.
The former Ghana skipper, who represented the country at the 2006, 2010, and 2014 FIFA World Cups, described Kudus as one of the most important players in the current squad because of his vision, intelligence, and ability to change games.

According to Gyan, the team would undoubtedly feel the absence of the midfielder if he is unable to recover in time for the tournament.
However, the all-time leading scorer for both Ghana and Africa at the FIFA World Cup urged the technical team to quickly identify alternatives capable of stepping up if Kudus misses out.
He stressed the importance of squad depth and tactical flexibility in major international competitions.
Gyan also noted that despite the unfortunate situation, the Black Stars must remain focused and find solutions that will keep the team competitive against Mexico national football team and throughout the World Cup campaign.
Ghana national football team have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama national football team, England national football team, and Croatia national football team.
The Black Stars, who will be making their fifth appearance at the global tournament, are scheduled to open their campaign against Panama on June 17 before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
