Former Italy international striker Mario Balotelli has publicly declared his support for Ghana at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup, saying he is proud of his Ghanaian heritage and is fully behind the Black Stars following Italy’s absence from the tournament.
Balotelli, who was born to Ghanaian parents before being adopted by an Italian family, revealed that his emotional connection to Ghana has influenced his support at the global showpiece.
“There is no Italy in the World Cup, so I support Ghana. I am from Ghana, and I’m proud,” he said.
The former Manchester City and AC Milan forward also reserved special praise for Ghana attacker Antoine Semenyo, highlighting his admiration for the player’s style and impact in the current squad.
“I love the players. Semenyo, I love the way he plays. I think 2010 was the best team of Ghana,” he added.
Balotelli’s comments come as the Black Stars prepare for a Round of 32 clash against Colombia after finishing third in Group L at the 2026 World Cup. The West African side will be aiming to continue their impressive run in a highly anticipated knockout fixture scheduled for Saturday.
Despite his Ghanaian roots, Balotelli represented Italy at international level throughout his career, but has often spoken openly about his connection to Ghana and African football.
