Aduana FC bounced back from last weekend’s disappointment with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over FC AshantiGold in their Ghana Premier League Matchday 7 clash at the Nana Agyeman Badu I Park on Sunday.
Abubakar Adams scored the only goal of the game in the 40th minute to hand the Ogya Boys a deserved three points and end their brief losing run.
The decisive moment came from a well-struck free kick by Seidu Saana from just outside the penalty area. Although the AshantiGold goalkeeper managed to get a hand to the effort, he could only parry the ball into the path of Adams, who reacted quickest to slot home the rebound.
The goal proved enough to separate the two sides in a tightly contested encounter, with Aduana taking their slender advantage into the interval before producing a disciplined defensive display in the second half.
The Dormaa-based club entered the fixture determined to respond after their 1-0 defeat to regional rivals Young Apostles ended a three-match winning streak. Sunday’s victory provided the perfect response and keeps their campaign firmly on course.
AshantiGold, meanwhile, were unable to build on their morale-boosting victory over FC Samartex in the previous round and struggled to create clear-cut opportunities against a well-organised Aduana defence.
The visitors’ hopes of rescuing a point suffered a major setback late in the game when Akwasi Afari received his marching orders, forcing AshantiGold to finish the match with 10 men.
Despite pushing forward in the closing stages, the Obuasi-based side failed to find an equaliser as Aduana comfortably saw out the remainder of the contest.
The victory strengthens Aduana FC’s position in the Ghana Premier League standings, while FC AshantiGold will look to bounce back from another disappointing away defeat in their next league assignment.
