Ghanaian forward Abdul Aziz Yakubu has sealed a permanent move to Japanese club Shimizu S-Pulse, bringing an end to his stint with Portuguese outfit Rio Ave.
The 25-year-old attacker has activated his termination clause and will join the Japanese side on a permanent deal.
Yakubu is expected to arrive in Japan this week, where he will undergo a medical examination before putting pen to paper on his new contract.
He expressed his excitement about the move, saying: “Hello everyone. I’m Aziz Yakubu. I’m very happy to be a part of the S-Pulse family. I’m looking forward to the new challenges that lie ahead. I’ll do my best to contribute to the club’s goal of returning to J1. See you at the stadium.”
The move marks Yakubu’s return to Asia after spending most of 2023 in China with Wuhan Three Lions.
He had previously featured for Rio Ave since the 2021/22 season, making 73 appearances and scoring 30 goals across three years. Yakubu’s performances earned him a reputation as a fan favorite during his time at the club.
