Ghanaian defender Abdul Rahman Baba was the hero for PAOK FC on Sunday, scoring the decisive goal in their 2-1 comeback victory over Asteras Tripolis in the Greek Super League.
The thrilling encounter at the Theodoros Kolokotronis Stadium saw PAOK fight back from a goal down to secure three crucial points, solidifying their position in second place after 12 rounds of matches.
Despite dominating possession in the first half, PAOK failed to capitalize on their chances. Early in the second half, Italian forward Federico Macheda gave Asteras the lead, sparking celebrations from the home fans.
PAOK responded in the 68th minute when Bulgarian midfielder Kiril Despodov leveled the score, keeping the visitors’ hopes alive.
Seeking a winning edge, PAOK introduced Baba in the 75th minute as a substitute for Spanish defender Joan Sastre. The decision paid off just 10 minutes later, as Baba latched onto a precise pass from Russian forward Fedor Chalov and slotted home the match-winner, sealing the dramatic comeback.
The victory highlights Baba’s impressive form this season. The left-back has contributed six goals and one assist in 19 appearances across all competitions, making him a vital asset to PAOK’s campaign.
With this win, PAOK continues their strong run in the league and looks to build momentum for the remainder of the season.
