Aduana Stars’ Communications Director, Evans Oppong, has attributed the club’s poor start in the ongoing Ghana Premier League (GPL) to the significant loss of players during the preseason.
The two-time league champions have struggled to find their rhythm, managing only two wins, six draws, and four losses in their 12 matches so far. This underwhelming performance has left the team in 13th place on the league table with 12 points.
Ahead of the new season, Aduana Stars released 19 players and brought in replacements, primarily from lower-tier clubs. Evans Oppong believes this transition has disrupted the team’s stability, but he remains optimistic about their recovery.
“Our fans should be calm. We released 19 players and brought in replacements from the lower-tier clubs. Obviously, we are not going to get things as we want. The players are new and will require time to settle at the club. With time, things will get better for us in the Ghana Premier League,” Oppong told Kessben FM, as reported by Ghanasoccernet.com.
In the midst of this turbulent start, Aduana Stars have also parted ways with head coach Yaw Acheampong by mutual consent following a string of disappointing results. Acheampong’s tenure came to a decisive end after a defeat to Kotoko, which further deepened the club’s struggles.
The team now faces the challenge of rebuilding and turning their season around as they look to climb up the league standings.
