Dutch Eredivisie side Ajax has finalized a deal to sign Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana on a season-long loan from Southampton, with an option to buy.
The move comes as Ajax looks to replace the outgoing Steven Bergwijn, who is set to transfer to Saudi Arabia. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that despite Sulemana’s contract with Southampton running until 2027, Ajax will have the option to make the loan deal permanent.
Ajax had previously shown interest in Sulemana back in 2021, but he joined Stade Rennes from FC Nordsjaelland for €17 million instead. Sulemana later moved to Southampton in January 2023 for €25 million.
During his stint in France, Sulemana made 47 appearances, scoring six goals and providing four assists. At Southampton, he featured in 44 matches, scoring twice and adding four assists. However, he has not played in the Premier League this season due to injury.
Sulemana’s injury has also sidelined him from Ghana’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger. Despite 19 caps for Ghana, he is yet to score for the senior national team.
