Asamoah Gyan says Black Stars head coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor respected him with a meeting when he took over from Kwesi Appiah as Ghana manager.
Gyan was stripped off as captain of the Black Stars by Appiah going into the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations , a decision that was hard to take by the country’s record goalscorer.
“When CK took over he showed me the needed respect and called me for talks, he was very honest and told me what I need to do to get back into the side.” Asamoah Gyan said on Max TV.
Akonnor is not ruling out a Gyan return to the national team but the 51-goal Ghana striker knows what to do to enter the team as the club-less forward failed to make the cut in the maiden selection of the new Ghana coach for a Sudan AFCON qualifier – a match eventually not played due to the Covid19.
“Yes I have to get a team and start playing to merit a call up because I dont want prefferential treament. I want to be there because of my form” Gyan told Max TV.
