Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah has dropped a major hint over his future at the Emirates Stadium with a cryptic message posted on social media.
The forward, who looks likely to leave Arsnal this summer, took to Instagram on Wednesday afternoon.
He posted an image of him celebrating a Gunners’ strike with hourglass emojis pasted over.
The story was certainly noticed by Arsenal fans on Twitter, some speculating that it could suggest an imminent exit from the Emirates Stadium, whilst others pointed at the fact it could mean a new contract.
football.london reports that the message is unlikely to suggest a new deal. The striker’s current contract ends next summer and whilst he has been offered an extension by the club, he won’t commit to an extended stay in north London.
This has forced the club to put Nketiah up for sale to avoid losing him for free after the 2021/22 season.
Whether a deal elsewhere is imminent or not remains to be seen but any exit would signal the end of a long period in Nketiah’s career.
A graduate of the Gunners’ academy, the 22-year-old joined the club in 2015. He was granted his first-team debut during the 2017/18 campaign as he memorably scored a brace on his debut against Norwich City.
He was sent out on loan to Leeds United during the 2019/20 season, netting five goals in all competitions before a January recall.
The summer window is officially open, and it’s going to be tough to keep up with the comings and goings in and out of the Emirates.
Thus far, Nketiah has made 63 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal, managing to score 13 goals.
He is not the only member of the Arsenal frontline with an uncertain future, though. The Gunners are thought to be open to selling Alexandre Lacazette, whilst Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been linked with Premier League rivals Chelsea in the past.
