Former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, has embarked on a commendable initiative to strengthen the foundation of Ghanaian football. Through the organization of the All Regional Games, he aims to address key issues and unearth young talents across the country.
The media launch for this ambitious multi-sport competition took place on Tuesday at the prestigious La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra. This event marked the beginning of a new chapter in Ghanaian sports, with Gyan leading the charge towards positive change.
At the heart of Gyan’s proposed initiative are regional trials scheduled for June 2024. During these trials, athletes from various regions will showcase their skills, vying for a chance to represent their region in the national championships slated for November 2024.
Kurt Okraku, President of the Ghana Football Association, expressed admiration for Gyan’s vision and initiative during his speech at the launch event. He commended the former captain for his boldness and dedication to improving the grassroots football landscape in Ghana.
Okraku highlighted the significance of the All Regional Games in addressing fundamental issues within Ghanaian football. By organizing such competitions, Gyan and his team are contributing to the development of football at its grassroots level, laying a solid foundation for future success.
In addition to fixing the fundamentals of Ghanaian football, Okraku emphasized the importance of the All Regional Games in identifying and nurturing young talents. He praised Gyan for providing a platform for aspiring athletes, especially those from remote areas, to showcase their abilities and be discovered.
Acknowledging Gyan’s role as a proud son of the Ghanaian football industry, Okraku pledged full support from the Football Association for the All Regional Games initiative. He assured Gyan of the association’s commitment to providing the necessary resources and assistance to ensure the success of the project.
Okraku also highlighted the involvement of young referees through the “Catch Them Young Referees” program, which aligns with the overarching goal of nurturing talent from a young age.
