Kwame Opoku, the in-form striker for Asante Kotoko, is eager to return to the Black Stars following a brilliant start to his second stint with the Porcupine Warriors.
After playing in Algeria and Morocco, Opoku rejoined Kotoko on a two-and-a-half-year deal. His performances since returning have been impressive, netting five goals in just four matches. The 24-year-old’s initial stint with Kotoko had previously earned him a call-up to the Black Stars under then-coach CK Akonnor.
Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, Opoku reflected on his first experience with the national team and expressed his determination to contribute more if given another opportunity. “I believe that during my first time with the Black Stars, I had more to offer, but maybe it wasn’t the right time. Now, I’ll make sure to improve my game, and if I’m called up again, I’m ready to give my best to the national team,” he said.
Opoku also expressed gratitude to Asante Kotoko fans for their support since his return and highlighted the club’s prominence in Ghanaian football. “Without a doubt, Asante Kotoko is the biggest club in Ghana. Its supporters are unmatched in size and passion—no one can rival the phenomenal fan base of the Porcupine Warriors,” he added.
With his current form, Opoku remains optimistic about earning another shot with the Black Stars, as he continues to shine for Kotoko in the Ghana Premier League.
