The Zambian women’s national team, the She-polopolo came from a two goal down to beat the Black Queens of Ghana 3-2 in a friendly ahead of this month’s Women’s Nations Cup tournament.
The Zambians started as a strong side but it was the Queens that took the lead in the 21st minute through Portia Boakye.
It looks like that wasn’t enough for the visitors in the first half as they increased the tally to two in the 33rd minute through a brilliant effort from Elizabeth Addo.
The Zambians made several attempts to either level or reduce the deficit before the game goes to recess but it all proved futile.
After the break, the Zambian ladies came with a different team.
The ten minutes pressure they were given to the Queens before the recess was resumed.
Bashir Hayford’s side were able to absorbed the pressure until the 70th minute when Kundananji pulled one back for the host.
The Queens could not protect the one goal difference and the She-polopolos finally levelled the game in the 80th minute through Kundananji.
The game looks like ending in a draw until 87th minute when the heroin of the day Kundananji had her hat-trick to grab the winner for Zambia.
The two teams played this friendly as a preparation towards the African women’s cup of nation which kicks off on 17th November, 2018 in Ghana.
The win over the Black Queens one of the favourites indicates that Zambia is sending signals that they are one of the participating teams to be taken serious in the upcoming tournament in Ghana.
