Hearts of Oak head coach Aboubakar Ouattara lauded the resilience of his team following their hard-fought 3-1 victory over Berekum Chelsea on Friday night, a much-needed bounce-back after their defeat in the Super Clash against Asante Kotoko.
Ouattara had warned that Chelsea would pose a significant challenge, acknowledging their strength with the statement, “Berekum Chelsea have a good team, but we managed to secure the three points today.” The Phobians took the lead early, but their advantage was tested when Chelsea fought back, reducing the deficit to 2-1 in the 62nd minute. This goal created a tense moment for the Phobians, who began to feel the pressure of the match.
Despite the challenge, Ouattara’s tactical adjustments played a pivotal role in ensuring Hearts of Oak regained control of the game. “We started suffering a bit when they scored, but we made some changes to bring vitality and keep pushing forward,” the coach explained. His substitutions helped refresh the squad and allowed Hearts to regain their rhythm, ultimately securing the win with a late strike from substitute Kwabena Boateng in the 81st minute.
Ouattara also took the time to thank the fans for their unwavering support throughout the match. “We are grateful to the fans who came today to support the team. The league now has 20 matches left, and we are focused on our chances. We have a big dream, and if it becomes a reality, we will take it. If not, we will go home,” he said, reflecting his team’s commitment to pushing for the title.
With 20 matches remaining, Hearts of Oak remain firmly in the title race, only two points behind league leaders Heart of Lions. Ouattara’s belief in his squad is well-placed, as this victory has reaffirmed their aspirations for the 2024/25 season.
Earlier in the campaign, Ouattara had outlined his intention to lead Hearts of Oak to the league title, and this win keeps those dreams alive. The Phobians last claimed the Ghana Premier League crown in the 2020/21 season, and a victory over struggling Accra Lions on Christmas Day could further propel them toward another championship triumph.
