Black Queens midfielder Grace Asantewaa expressed her disappointment after the team’s inability to secure qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games.
Despite their efforts, the national team fell short, suffering a 1-0 defeat in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium before playing to a 3-3 draw in Ndola on Wednesday.
With the Copper Queens advancing to the final round of qualifiers on a 4-3 aggregate, Asantewaa took to social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to convey gratitude to Ghana for its unwavering support throughout the Olympic campaign.
She acknowledged the disappointment felt by the team but expressed appreciation for the continuous backing from fans and urged them to maintain support for future endeavors.
“Thank you, Ghana, for your incredible support throughout the Olympic campaign. We are disappointed with the outcome but deeply appreciate your unwavering backing. Please continue to support us in future assignments” she wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Following the Olympic disappointment, the focus for the Black Queens now shifts to the upcoming 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations scheduled to take place in Morocco later this year.
