English Premier League club Chelsea has promoted Ghanaian duo Josh Acheampong and Tyrique George to their first team, marking a major milestone in the players’ careers after joining the club’s academy at the age of 8.
The announcement, made on Thursday, celebrates the 18-year-olds’ impressive development. Both players were part of Chelsea’s pre-season tour in the United States and have since been training with the senior squad.
This season, Acheampong and George have already featured in the UEFA Conference League and EFL Cup.
In the summer, George signed a long-term contract with the club, and this week, Acheampong followed suit, securing his future at Stamford Bridge with a deal that will keep him at the club until 2029.
During a special locker room ceremony, head coach Enzo Maresca commended the pair, with their teammates applauding as they received personalized locker signs.
Although both players were born in England to Ghanaian parents and have represented England at youth levels, they are still eligible to play for the Ghana national team, keeping their international prospects open.
