Ghana’s Black Meteors drew one all in their opening game of the Caf U23 Championship against Cameroon on Friday night.
The Cameroonians were the better side in the first half of the match as Ibrahim Tanko’s side struggled to create chances.
Nonetherless, the Meteors of Ghana held their ground as the half ended barren.
Head Coach Ibrahim Tanko made a first half substitution by replacing Isaah Abass with Obeng Gyabaah Solomon after recess.
Ghana looked very serious and more purposeful after the recess but failed to make hit the back of the net.
Franck Evina scored a magnificent free kick on the 60th minute after Asante Kotoko defender Habib Mohammed had fouled a Cameroonian striker just at the edge of the 18-yard-box.
The Black Meteors quickly reorganized themselves and came into the game after going behind with striker Kwabena Owusu coming close to pulling parity but his effort missed the far post narrowly.
Ex-Professionals midfielder Simon Zibo, wasn’t at his best as he became Ghana’s weakest link in midfield and was later substituted for Daniel Lomotey.
Habib Mohammed after fouling a Cameroonian striker in the 18-yard box which resulted into the goal, redeemed his image with an 87th minutes equalizer to salvage a point for the Black Meteors.
The game ended 1-1 as both teams failed to clinch a vital win to go level with group leaders Egypt who earlier in the day beat Mali by a lone goal.
Ghana will take on hosts Egypt on the 11th of November at 5pm in their second group game.
