Experience Ghanaian Coach J.E Sarpong has described as irrelevant the comparison made between former Chelsea manager Avram Grant and current Black Stars Coach Kwesi Appiah.
Connoisseurs of the game have over the weeks have questioned Kwesi Appiah’s technical brain with some suggesting the former Chelsea boss is way ahead of Appiah but Coach Sarpong says the comparison is completely unjustifiable.
He feels Kwesi Appiah is gradually rebuilding a depleted Black Stars team inherit from the 2015 Cup of Nations finalist.
Speaking on Kumasi based Abusua FM, the veteran trainer said ”The comparison in my opinion doesn’t hold because Kwesi Appiah is currently working under a different atmosphere and Grant also worked under different atmosphere so there are two parallel lines. In the first place Avram inherit a team built by Kwesi Appiah and introduced only two players but the story is entirely different now because Kwesi is doing massive overhauling in his quest to parade a winsome team going into AFCON 2019’’.
He added ”For those who don’t know to build a new team isn’t that easy you sometimes need to observe players for about four, five times before finally handling them call ups into the Black Stars team. Kwesi Appiah is doing well and should be encouraged to accomplish his task”.
”Personally I think he’s doing well therefore he needs our support to be able to assemble quality materials for the Black Stars team in future”.
Coach Sarpong was a major critique of Avram Grant during his two years stay in Ghana.
Coach has played eight matches since he took over from Avram Grant in May, 2017, winning two matches three draws with two defeats.
