Former Black Stars midfielder Derek Boateng has criticised the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for the country’s inability to accomplish results in recent years.
Several national teams have been able to make the needed progress desired since Kurt Okraku was voted into office as the president of the association although the Black Satellites and Black Princesses have chalked successes.
The most recent was the Black Meteors, who were eliminated on Friday night from the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations after a poor 1-1 draw with Guinea that saw them place third in Group A. The results also see them miss out on a place at next year’s Olympic Games in Paris.
Speaking on Joy FM on Saturday, Boateng, who represented Ghana’s youth teams before being promoted to the Black Stars, blamed the FA’s interference in coaches’ efforts for their lack of success.
“The FA owns a lot of players in the national teams and that’s why we don’t perform,” he said.
“The GFA think they have answers to everything. Our youth football is collapsing and it’s about time we stop thinking about Black Stars.”
