Former Ghana star Sam Johnson has advised Black Stars coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor to be resolute and never allow any Ghana FA official to influence him in his call-ups.
Akonnor played his first two matches as Black Stars coach in the recent international friendlies against Mali and Qatar.
He shambolically lost his first game by 3-0 to African neighbours Mali and later responded with a resounding 5-1 victory over Asian champions Qatar in his second game on Monday.
The former Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko gaffer received heavy criticism following that embarrassing defeat to Mali.
Akonnor was chastised for neglecting most of the key players who formed the team under former coach Kwasi Appiah as his call-ups were dominated by new players.
Sam Johnson commenting on the humiliating defeat against Mali said most of the players invited are not ready for the Black Stars yet despite the potential they possess.
He further advised CK not to do a complete overhaul of the team but count on some experienced players in his next call-ups.
He, however, wants Akonnor to blend the current team with both young and experienced players to enable him to parade a winsome side.
“I don’t think this current crop of players are ready for the pressure that comes with playing for the Black Stars. CK Akonnor should not allow anybody to influence him in his next call-up”, he said in an interview on Happy FM.
The former Ghana captain will face Sudan in the 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifiers double-header next month.
Mubarak Wakaso and Frank Acheampong together with some key players who missed the two friendlies are expected to return to the team for the two games against Sudan.
Ghana won the first two qualification games against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe under former coach Kwasi Appiah.
