Former Ghana striker Kwasi Owusu has strongly kicked against calls by Ghanaians to get Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah fired.
The Ex- Black Stars prolific striker says Kwasi Appiah has done nothing wrong to be sacked despite failing to qualify to the quarter-finals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Owusu who featured for the Black Stars in the late 60s and early 70s says South African referee should rather be blamed as he caused Ghana’s round of 16 exit at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations when he disallowed Andre Ayew’s good goal.
“We should put the Black Stars elimination at the door step of the referee for disallowing our legitimate goal which in a way discouraged our players. They did well,” Owusu told New Kumas-based Mercury FM.
He added: “I don’t understand why Ghanaians are saying we should sack Kwesi Appiah. He took players we have as a country to the championship.”
Owusu who is reported to have nettedover 70 goals for the Black Stars but of which only 30 were documented also talked about the alleged sex issues which happened in the team’s camp.
“Sex and football don’t match. If they engaged in sexual affairs then it did contribute to our elimination from the Afcon.
“We should start with our preparations for the next AFCON Championship now by taking a critical look at our Colts football and the various youth teams,” he added.
