Ghana Football Association boss, Kurt Okraku is set to go unopposed after the disqualification of George Afriyie on Wednesday evening, a day before Ghana’s Black Stars crucial AFCON qualifier.
The former Ghana Football Association Vice President under Kwesi Nyantakyi has been disqualified from this year’s Ghana FA presidential election, leaving the incumbent, Kurt Okraku, to go unopposed.
The Vetting Committee announced on that Afriyie’s application did not meet the necessary criteria, which necessitated his disqualification from contesting for the GFA president position.
Despite the election procedure put on hold due to court injunction, the vetting committee had however ruled that the former Gamba Osaka All Blacks boss is out of the race.
The Vetting Committee cited specific reasons for Afriyie’s disqualification, including the breach of “Article 13(2)(j) of the Ghana Football Association statutes, 2019,” and his failure to provide the required number of Ghana Football Association members to support his candidature.
In response to this decision, Afriyie has a three-day window to file an appeal.
