The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has taken action against Hearts of Oak, one of Ghana’s football powerhouses, for alleged fan misconduct during their recent clash against Dreams FC.
The match, which ended in a 2-2 draw at the Baba Yara Stadium on matchday 21 of the Ghana Premier League, saw Hearts of Oak facing accusations of breaching Section 16 of the Disciplinary Code, 2019, and Section 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019.
The charges stem from reported instances of inappropriate behavior by Hearts of Oak supporters towards match officials during the game. Additionally, the club’s social media commentary concerning the match officials has been deemed as misconduct, tarnishing the reputation of the game.
Hearts of Oak has been given until Wednesday, March 20, 2024, to provide their response to the charges set forth by the Disciplinary Committee of the FA.
Despite the disciplinary setback, Hearts of Oak has shown commendable performance under the guidance of Ivorian tactician Aboubakar Ouattara. The team has secured three wins and two draws since the league’s resumption, accumulating 11 points from a possible 15 in the second half of the domestic top-flight season.
As a result of their recent successes, Hearts of Oak has climbed above rivals Asante Kotoko on the Ghana Premier League table, now sitting in 7th place but level on points with Kotoko.
