Henry Asante Twum, Communications Director at the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has stated that the Ghana Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram is not yet ready to host Black Stars training sessions.
Despite significant investments in the facility, including the installation of six boreholes to maintain the pitches, Asante Twum revealed on Joy News’ PM Express on Wednesday, September 18, that the centre is currently not suitable for use by the senior national team. The facility boasts two grass pitches, but they are still not in adequate condition for professional training.
Asante Twum explained, “When it comes to training pitches for national teams, the primary authority rests with the head coach. He decides the training venue based on several factors. We do have two grass pitches at Prampram and are planning to build more.”
He added, “At the moment, no, because the pitches are not in good condition. The pitches in question were constructed years ago, and our borehole project was intended to improve their condition.”
The Black Stars have utilized various training facilities, including the recently renovated University of Ghana Stadium. However, ‘security reasons’ have prompted the team to revert to the Accra Sports Stadium for their training sessions.
Currently, three of Ghana’s major stadiums are closed for maintenance, which raises concerns about where the Black Stars’ next home game might be played.
