Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has set an ambitious tone ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting the Black Stars will approach every match with the mindset of victory as they prepare for their campaign in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The tournament officially kicked off on June 11, 2026, with Ghana scheduled to begin their Group L journey against Panama on July 17.
Speaking after arriving on Rhodes Island, Queiroz said his side are fully focused on delivering strong performances throughout the competition.
“Our expectation is to go out, play the best football and win every single game. We carry the hopes and dreams of millions of people on our shoulders, and we want to make them proud,” he said.
Ghana are making their fifth World Cup appearance and have been drawn in a tough Group L alongside England, 2018 finalists Croatia, and Panama. After facing Panama in their opener, they will take on England and Croatia in what is expected to be a challenging group stage.
Queiroz, who is appearing at his fifth World Cup as a coach after previous stints with Iran, was appointed Ghana boss in April and has had limited preparation time but remains confident in his squad’s readiness.
The Black Stars are still chasing their first World Cup knockout stage qualification since their historic 2010 run in South Africa, where they reached the quarter-finals. Since then, Ghana have featured in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022, with varying levels of success on the global stage.
