England-born defender Josh Acheampong, of Ghanaian descent, made an impactful appearance as a second-half substitute for Chelsea in their impressive 5-0 victory against Barrow AFC in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night.
The talented teenager was included in the Blues’ matchday squad for the Round 32 clash but did not start the game. However, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca brought him on to replace Axel Disasi in the 63rd minute, giving Acheampong the opportunity to showcase his skills.
During his nearly 30 minutes on the pitch, Acheampong delivered a solid defensive performance, contributing to Chelsea’s clean sheet as they dominated the match. The Blues’ attack was led by Christopher Nkunku, who netted a sensational hat-trick, scoring two goals in the first half and completing his trio in the second half.
Barrow AFC’s woes were compounded by an own goal from Paul Farman, followed by a strike from Pedro Neto that sealed Chelsea’s emphatic victory.
While Acheampong celebrated his team’s success, fellow Ghanaian descendant Emile Acquah was in action for Barrow AFC, facing a tough defeat at Stamford Bridge.
