Potential Black Stars right-back Najeeb Yakubu returned from injury to put in an impressive performance on Saturday for Vorskla Poltava in their heavy 3-0 win against Olimpik Donetsk on Matchday 19 in the ongoing Ukrainian Premier League.
It was a happy day for Vorskla Poltava as the win sends them into 4th on the league table with 31 points and a Place for next season’s UEFA Europe League should they maintain their current Status.
Yakubu who was making his 13th Appearance of the league season, was named in Vorskla Poltava’s starting line-up.
The Former Newtown Youth man, who is yet to register an assist or goal this season was handed an unfamiliar role on the left-back against Olimpik Donetsk in a 4-4-1-1 formation by manager Yuri Maximou.
Vorskla Poltava started the game with a Purpose as they threatened the visitors’ defensive area from the onset.
The former Ghana U-17 Defender had been out of action for three weeks with a Muscle Injury, which he was an unused substitute for Vorskla Poltava in Last Week’s 1-0 home defeat to FC Dnipro.
Yakubu looked dangerous on the ball with his pace and trickery troubled the visitors.
He was, however, replaced in the 83rd minute of the match by Ukrainian midfielder Daniil Semilet.
Vorskla got their goals courtesy of a double from forward, Ruslan Stepanyuk on the 13th, and the 55th minute.
The brace came in between Igor Snurnitsyn own goal on the 25th minute to finish the game at 3-0.
Yakubu’s Vorskla Poltava will welcome Shakhtar Donetsk in the matchday 20 League fixture on 3rd April after the international break.
