King Faisal star boy Zubairu Ibrahim has expressed excitement following his historic hat-trick in the Kumasi derby win giants Asante Kotoko on Sunday in the Ghana Premier League.
The 17-year old forward produced a high-level performance in the Kumasi derby scoring a 63-minute treble of goals to end Kotoko’s unbeaten run.
His first effort came in the 4th minute as he capitalized on some loose defending by the Kotoko defenders to head home the opener following a rebound incident.
His second of the afternoon arrived in the 18th minute when he received a squared ball from Mawuli Wayo in the Kotoko area. He created space with his first control before directing his strike to the roof of the net to make it 2-0 for King Faisal.
In between his first two goals and his third was a 46th-minute goal pulled back by Mfegue George of Kotoko but in the 67th minute, Zubairu did another damage as he beat Razak Abalora to put King Faisal 3-1 up.
Mfegue again threatened a comeback with his 73rd-minute strike but that was how the game would end, 3-2 for the club of Alhaji Grusah.
“I am so elated about the win over Kotoko yesterday. It was a big game and considering the pressure and the huge fans present and scoring three goals, I deserve to be excited,” an excited Zubairu told FOX FM.
“I had sleepless night yesterday. I never imagined scoring a hat-trick against Kotoko because, in 2017, I watched Kotoko play Hearts of Oak in the President cup game. Fast forward in 2021, I have scored a hat-trick against Kotoko,I have every reason to be excited.” he concluded.
After the game, there was a standing ovation from the King Faisal supporters for Zubairu, who was voted man of the match, and the entire Faisal team.
