Former Chelsea manager Graham Potter praised Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo’s determination and resilience following his goal in Bournemouth’s 3-1 victory over Southampton at the Vitality Stadium on Monday.
Semenyo’s strike capped off an impressive first half for the Cherries, who took a commanding 3-0 lead before halftime.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Potter commended Semenyo’s perseverance through the challenges of his career. “It is a great story it is really nice to hear that type of path he has been on as you said before. He has had ups and downs he has had to suffer in the lower leagues and have some experiences where he doesn’t play but he kept going great story for any young player,” he said.
“Sometimes patience is the most important thing he is obviously have the talent the trick is to find the right pathway and everyone’s pathway is different”
Potter also highlighted the importance of patience in Semenyo’s success. “But he is taken his he is using all these experiences and he has arrived in the Premier League somewhat in a humble way appreciative of what he has got now and appreciative of the journey he has been on and how much he is contributing. It is a really nice story,”
Bournemouth opened the scoring in the 17th minute with Evanilson finishing from a Marcus Tavernier assist. Dango Ouattara doubled the lead 15 minutes later after receiving a pass from Lewis Cook. Semenyo then added a third goal in the 39th minute, with Cook providing another assist. Southampton managed a consolation goal through Taylor Harwood-Bellis in the 51st minute, but the Cherries held on for a crucial win.
The victory narrows the head-to-head record between the two clubs, with Bournemouth securing their fifth win against Southampton’s ten. The Cherries will next face Leicester City.
