Black Stars goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi has set his sights on achieving another major career milestone, revealing that playing in the UEFA Europa League would be a dream come true as he prepares for the new season with Swiss outfit St. Gallen.
The Ghana international helped St. Gallen lift the Swiss Cup last season, securing the club a place in the Europa League qualifiers and opening the door to another exciting chapter in his career.
Speaking to Sporty FM, the 29-year-old admitted that competing in one of Europe’s premier club competitions has always been an ambition.
“It’ll be a great achievement for me to play in the Europa League because you get to play against some of the best players,” Ati-Zigi said.
St. Gallen are expected to face Portuguese giants Benfica in the second qualifying round, with both clubs battling for a place in the competition’s league phase.
Ati-Zigi heads into the new campaign full of confidence after an impressive showing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The goalkeeper started Ghana’s opening group-stage victory over Panama before an injury temporarily ruled him out of the next two matches.
He returned for the Black Stars’ Round of 32 clash against Colombia and delivered an outstanding performance, producing a series of crucial saves to keep Ghana in the contest despite their narrow 1-0 defeat.
His performances further enhanced his reputation as one of Ghana’s most dependable players and capped off another strong year for both club and country.
Despite attracting transfer interest in recent months, Ati-Zigi has reaffirmed his commitment to St. Gallen, insisting his immediate focus remains on helping the Swiss club compete successfully in domestic competitions and on the European stage.
With his contract running until June 2027, the former Sochaux goalkeeper is now hoping to lead St. Gallen through the Europa League qualifiers and test himself against some of the biggest clubs and best players in European football.
