Legon Cities head coach Samuel Paa Kwesi Fabin has expressed optimism that his team’s victory over Asante Kotoko will mark a pivotal moment in their Ghana Premier League campaign.
The Royals secured a 2-1 win against the Porcupine Warriors on Wednesday night, achieving their first victory of the season.
The match, held at the Accra Sports Stadium, was a disappointing affair for Kotoko, who had started the season on a high note. Fabin reflected on the significance of the win, stating, “I told you from the beginning this game might be the turnaround, the turning point that we all needed for us to kick off our campaign, so it’s a good victory for us.”
Legon Cities took the lead in the 22nd minute with a goal from Albert Yeboah, setting a challenging tone for Kotoko. The visitors managed to equalize in the 76th minute when in-form forward Albert Amoah converted a penalty, briefly reigniting hope for the Kotoko side with only 14 minutes left.
However, in the dying moments of the match, Abdul Rahman scored a stoppage-time goal, clinching the win for Legon Cities and securing crucial points for the struggling side.
Following this victory, Legon Cities have risen from the bottom to 17th place in the Ghana Premier League standings after eight matches. They will next face Young Apostles in matchday 9 of the league campaign.
