Asante Kotoko midfielder Richmond Lamptey, who recently featured in the Black Stars squad during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, has offered insights into the valuable lessons he learned during his time with the national team.
Lamptey, formerly of Inter Allies, was one of the three local-based players selected for the final 27-man squad for the tournament. Despite being part of the squad, coach Chris Hughton did not field him in any of the games.
However, Lamptey, reflecting on his experience, highlighted significant takeaways, particularly emphasizing the importance of patience in football. He stressed that rushing can lead to mistakes and noted the need to elevate the intensity of play when in possession of the ball.
In a statement addressed to his club, Lamptey remarked, “When I joined the Black Stars camp, I learned so many things. Football is not about rushing; it is about patience. If you rush when playing football, you’ll make mistakes. I’ve also learned that when you are on the ball, your intensity should be high.”
Despite the Black Stars’ disappointing performance in the tournament, failing to win a single game and being eliminated after finishing third in their group, Lamptey is determined to apply the lessons he gained from the national team camp to contribute effectively to Asante Kotoko’s pursuit of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League title.
