Chief Executive Officer of Asante Kotoko Football Club, George Amoako, has disclosed that the football team is in a dire financial situation because corporate bodies have withdrawn their support.
Speaking on Happy FM’s specially organized program to discuss the effects of Covid-19 on the sports fraternity, he shared that for Asante Kotoko, game proceeds are a major source of income, which is then complimented by corporate bodies who augment their monthly revenues.
However, with the halt in all sporting activities, the local team is currently down on their major source of income and since they are not generating any money, the corporate bodies have nothing to augment.
George Amoako said, “As a result of this Covid-19, corporate bodies who are supporting us monthly have stopped paying the monies because they are not getting the mileage they are expecting when the football season is on. Because we are not playing football, they are not paying the monies”.
When questioned about the team’s contract with MTN which has also been put on hold due to the reigning pandemic, Mr. Amoako mentioned he cannot disclose the condition of the said contract.
He made known, the fact that it happens when one gets into such situations, that they have to suffer their fate, therefore, it is something that is clear in the agreement, nevertheless, he cannot provide details outside the scope.
