Asante Kotoko head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum has expressed his delight over the return of striker Kwame Opoku, who rejoined the club after stints with Moroccan side Olympique Khouribga and Algerian outfit USM Alger.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Kotoko’s highly anticipated Super Clash against rivals Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, December 15, Dr. Ogum highlighted Opoku’s positive attitude and readiness to make an impact.
“He’s a fine striker, a fine player. I admire his level of professionalism, and he’s happy to be back at the club to contribute his quota. We know he has an eye for goal, and that’s exactly why we’ve brought him on board,” said Dr. Ogum.
Opoku, who previously scored seven goals in 16 Ghana Premier League matches for Kotoko, signed a two-and-a-half-year deal to mark his return. During his time abroad, he netted five goals and provided six assists in 33 games in the Ligue Professionnelle 1.
Dr. Ogum expressed confidence in the 27-year-old’s ability to strengthen Kotoko’s attacking line, which has faced challenges this season. “We only have to support him and let him believe that he is a quality player. That’s why we’ve brought him back. As a coach, I’m happy to have him in the team.”
The Super Clash, kicking off at 15:00 GMT, is a pivotal fixture as Kotoko aims to close the gap on Hearts of Oak, who currently sit just one point ahead in the league standings.
