Midfield-dynamo Majeed Ashimeru has been handed his first ever competitive Black Stars start in today’s game against South Africa.
The West African Football Academy (WAFA) SC graduate was given his first start to start a competition match for the Black Stars who takes on Bafana Bafana later today by gaffer, CK Akonnor.
The RSC Anderlecht man will start alongside Mubarak Wakaso and Emmanuel Lomotey in a midfield of three as Ghana’s coach makes ulteration to his tactics compared to the previous game against Ethiopia.
Ashimeru was part of the Black Meteors team that defied all odds to beat Algeria in Algiers to qualify for the Africa U23 championship in Egypt 2019.
Unfortunately for him, his club at the time, Red Bull Salzburg did not allow him to play in the tournament proper where Ghana failed to qualify for the just ended Olympic games in Japan.
This could be a great opportunity for the midfielder to finally stake a claim in the Ghana team ahead of next year’s AFCON in Cameroon.
South Africa and Ghana will square off at 4pm Ghana time today for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers match.
