President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Ben Nunoo Mensah, has attributed the Black Stars’ recent poor performances to a lack of commitment from the players.
The national team has faced heavy criticism following their disappointing campaign in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. After six matches, Ghana recorded three draws and three defeats, finishing at the bottom of Group F with only three points. As a result, the Black Stars will miss the upcoming AFCON tournament for the first time in 20 years.
Reacting to the team’s underperformance, Nunoo Mensah pointed to a lack of national attachment and commitment among the players, particularly those who have switched nationality to play for Ghana. He believes these players do not fully understand the honor of representing the country.
“I don’t see the national attachment of these players, and it is because they have been brought from different places. They don’t understand the jersey they are wearing,” he stated during an interview with Asempa FM.
“These players we currently have lack commitment, and I believe that we have to go back to the basics to fix these problems,” he added.
The Black Stars will aim to improve their performance in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers when they face Chad and Madagascar in March 2025.
Meanwhile, the future of head coach Otto Addo remains uncertain, with the Ghana Football Association’s Executive Council yet to make a decision on his tenure.
