Asante Kotoko head coach Narteh Ogum has acknowledged the high expectations that come with managing the Porcupine Warriors, emphasizing that the club is synonymous with winning and must always strive for excellence.
Ogum, confident in his team’s ability to compete for titles, stated that Kotoko will be in strong contention by the end of the 2024/25 season. After a disappointing previous campaign where they finished 12 points behind champions FC Samartex and narrowly avoided relegation by five points, Kotoko made significant changes to their squad, releasing over 20 players and signing more than 11 new recruits to bolster their ranks.
The Porcupine Warriors have shown signs of resurgence, starting the new Ghana Premier League season with a crucial 1-0 win over Karela United in their opener at Nalerigu.
“We should expect this team to do very well by the end of the season, to play well, and win more games,” Ogum declared. “Kotoko is known for winning games. If you coach or play for Kotoko, it’s a task you need to accomplish—you must play well and win.”
Despite his confidence, Ogum emphasized the need for humility and hard work, adding, “We shouldn’t boast; instead, we need to work harder, stay determined, stay focused, and get the job done.”
Asante Kotoko will aim to build on their strong start when they face Young Apostles in matchweek three of the Ghana Premier League on Sunday in Obuasi, hoping to continue their push for a successful season.
