Former deputy Youth and Sports minister Vincent Oppong Asamoah has offered a piece of advice to President Akufo Addo following his announcement of $25 million budget for the Black Stars participation in the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification.
The President expressed his desperation to see Ghana end her AFCON title failure since 1982 and says government will provide an upfront of $10 million. The remaining 15 million is to be raised through sponsorships.
But the Honorable Oppong Asamoah has some advice for the first gentleman of the land.
“Anybody into football knows that money plays a role but we have to ask ourselves whether that is the only thing we need to win the trophy.” the Dormaa West Member of Parliament quizzed on Kumasi-bases Fox FM on Tuesday.
“I will advise that the major of the monies are not given to the players as we progress but rather, the structure of the bonus should be that when they win the ultimate trophy then they receive the huge bonus,” he advised.
“In the past, we have always motivated the player with money and so when there is no money, they don’t perform well.” the former MOYS number 2 explained.
