Samuel Anim Addo, a former member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council, has been charged with breaching the GFA’s Ghana Premier League Regulations following recent comments made on social media platform X.
The GFA has accused Anim Addo of misconduct, alleging that his statements brought the reputation of both the Association and the Ghana Premier League into disrepute.
The charges, based on Articles 34(6)(d) and 38(8)(c) of the Ghana Premier League Regulations, stem from Anim Addo’s accusations against referee Maxwell Hanson during the Accra Lions vs. Dreams FC match. He alleged that Hanson was involved in “dirty work” and referred to him as a “hatchet man,” while also suggesting the GFA had silenced him over concerns about poor officiating.
Now serving as the President of Young Apostles, Anim Addo has been given until Monday, January 13, 2024, to respond to the charges. His comments, made amid a broader controversy over officiating decisions, have ignited debate about refereeing standards in Ghanaian football.
The GFA is taking the matter seriously, with sources indicating that Anim Addo’s allegations were considered baseless and potentially damaging to the league’s credibility. The outcome of the case will likely shape how public criticisms of officials and the GFA are addressed in the future.
