Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has confirmed that the Black Stars are fully prepared for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while indicating that two goalkeepers are likely to be dropped from the current provisional squad ahead of the final selection.
The Minister disclosed that head coach Carlos Queiroz has named a 28-man provisional squad, which includes five goalkeepers: Benjamin Asare, Solomon Agbasi, Lawrence Ati-Zigi, Joseph Annag, and Paul Reverson.
He explained that the final 26-man squad is expected to be announced on Monday, June 1, ahead of Ghana’s pre-tournament friendly against Wales scheduled for June 2 in Cardiff.
Kofi Adams, speaking in an interview, stressed that preparations for the tournament remain on course and described the team as fully ready for the global competition.
He further revealed that the expected squad reduction is likely to affect the goalkeeping department, suggesting that two players from that unit may be dropped.
The Black Stars will also face Jamaica on June 10 in another warm-up match as part of their final preparations for the tournament.
Ghana, who will be making their fifth FIFA World Cup appearance, have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama. They will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
The team will be aiming to advance beyond the group stage for the first time since their historic quarter-final run at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
