St. Pauli skipper Chris Avevor says racism exists in Germany and he has been a victim in the past.
Avevor whose father is a Ghanaian reiterated that they deliberately failed him his driving test some years ago because of his mixed race.
” I failed three times, because of racism although I had learned every time and was able to answer the questions. My driving instructor had my exam papers given by the examiner, and lo and behold, I actually should have passed the first time.” Avevor told Mopo.
“I got used to racism over a long time. As long as nobody insults me directly, I don’t worry about gestures and looks that seem strange.”
Avevor, 28, joined St. Pauli in 2016 from Fortuna Dusseldorf and has so far made 69 league appearances scoring one goal.
He has represented Germany up to the Under 20 level.
