Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, a former midfielder for the Black Stars, recently shared his concerns about how Ghana’s national team is chosen.
He noticed that lately, there are more players from abroad in the team. This is because there aren’t enough good players from Ghana joining the Black Stars.
This means there aren’t many players in the team who played for Ghana’s younger teams before.
Agyemang-Badu thinks there should be a better plan for finding and keeping good players for the national team. He thinks things need to change.
He remembered a time when Ben Koufie was in charge and had a plan to make good players for the future. Players like Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari came from that plan. Agyemang-Badu was also part of a team that won the U-20 World Cup in 2009.
“We were part of a plan. We learned from older players and when they left, we were ready to take their place,” Agyemang-Badu said during an interview on UTV.
“But it’s been 15 years since then, and we haven’t seen another U-20 team as good as ours in 2009. This shows there are big problems in Ghanaian football,” he added.
