Black Meteors head coach Ibrahim Tanko says his side kept to their faith after the Black Meteors disappointing performance in the first leg of their Africa U23 Afcon qualifier against Algeria in Accra.
The Ghana U-23 side were held to a 1-1 drew last Friday in Accra before flying to Algeria- Setif to stun the Fennec Foxes with a sweet 1-0 victory to qualify for the 2019 U23 Africa Cup of Nations which will be held in Egypt.
“At least the technical team never gave up after the traumatic situation we went in after the first leg, and our players were also determined, we took up the challenge to psych the players up for the return leg, and the players responded to it,” Tanko told 442gh.com after the team’s historic qualification.
“We see this qualification as one for the entire country, and feel very happy that we have been victorious in far away Algeria, this victory goes to every Ghanaian including the GFA, ministry of Youth and Sports, and congratulate my players for their fighting spirit”.
Ghana has qualified for the Africa U23 championship for the first time, and will seek to break the 16 year absence from the Olympic football tournament.
