Ghana Coach Kwasi Appiah, has hinted that only deserving players will make his team’s final cut for the 2019 Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt.
According to him, not only will he parade big names to the tourney but will instead assemble players worth representing the country at this year’s Afcon.
He comments come after beating Kenya 1-0 in the final Afcon qualification game at the Accra Sports Stadium last Saturday.
“Some of them played and I will make sure they will play so that not myself alone, every Ghanaian can assess them and decide whether they are better or we should still rely on those we know already. It is important that you have such opportunities so when making the final team, we all assess them, know what they can do and what they bring on board,” Mr Appiah said in an interview.
The former Ghanaian international has endured a lot of flak in the past for fielding big names rather than deserving players.
He said, however, that he is gradually shaping up his squad for the Afcon in Egypt.
“Sometimes, the name alone does not count and you need to take tough decisions and go on with the team”.
