Ghanaian goalkeeper Joseph Anang has rejoined St Patrick’s Athletic on a permanent basis, signing a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Irish club following the expiration of his deal with English Premier League side West Ham United.
Anang, a Ghana-born England youth international, spent six months on loan at St Patrick’s in 2022 before returning to West Ham, where he helped the team win the UEFA Conference League in the following season.
However, after seven years with the Hammers and limited first-team opportunities, Anang has made the decision to leave on a permanent basis.
The 24-year-old goalkeeper has expressed his excitement to return to St Patrick’s, citing his fond memories of his previous loan spell and the prospect of playing regular football.
Anang stated that the move came about naturally, as he had maintained a good relationship with St Patrick’s goalkeeping coach Pat Jennings and had been in touch with him since his departure.
“I’m very excited to be back at the club,” Anang said. “St Pat’s is where I played most of my senior games, and I feel I played my best football at Pat’s during my loan in 2022. I really enjoyed my time here, so I’m very excited.”
Anang will now look to establish himself as a regular starter for St Patrick’s Athletic ahead of the 2024/25 season.
