Ghanaian-born Italian forward Kelvin Yeboah capped off his first Major League Soccer season with a brace for Minnesota United, despite their defeat to LA Galaxy in the semi-finals of the Western Conference.
Yeboah, who joined Minnesota in July, played a key role in their playoff qualification, scoring seven goals in nine regular-season matches. His efforts were instrumental in securing the team’s spot in the postseason.
However, Minnesota’s journey came to an end on Sunday evening when they were overwhelmed by the five-time champions, LA Galaxy, at Dignity Health Park. The game started explosively, with Gabriel Pec giving the hosts the lead in the first minute. Yeboah responded quickly, equalizing just five minutes later.
LA Galaxy regained the lead when Dejan Joveltic headed in a cross from Marco Reus, and Ghanaian forward Joseph Paintsil added another goal to extend their advantage. Yeboah then scored again for Minnesota just before halftime, converting a penalty to make it 3-2.
In the second half, LA Galaxy proved too strong for Minnesota, with Pec, Paintsil, and Joveltic each scoring again to secure a 6-2 victory, ending Minnesota’s playoff run.
