The Burkina Faso Football Federation has reportedly initiated discussions with seasoned Ghanaian coach James Kwesi Appiah over the possibility of taking charge of the country’s senior national team.
According to sources, the talks remain at a preliminary stage as the federation assesses its technical direction ahead of crucial upcoming international competitions. The move signals Burkina Faso’s intent to secure an experienced African manager with a strong track record on the continental stage.
Appiah is currently at the helm of the Sudan national football team, where he has overseen an impressive transformation. He guided Sudan to the knockout rounds of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, surpassing expectations in a fiercely contested tournament.
He also steered Sudan to the semi-finals of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), further strengthening his credentials as a tactician capable of building competitive teams, even with limited resources.
The 65-year-old previously etched his name in history by leading the Ghana national football team to the 2014 FIFA World Cup and managing several Africa Cup of Nations campaigns during his tenure.
While neither federation has officially confirmed the negotiations, the potential appointment could trigger a significant shake-up in West African football should discussions progress in the coming weeks.
