Teenage striker Jonah Kusi-Asare has conceded that his loan spell at Fulham has not gone as planned, with the youngster struggling for regular first-team minutes since joining from Bayern Munich on a season-long deal.
The highly rated Swedish-Ghanaian forward arrived in England with strong expectations but has found it difficult to break into Marco Silva’s side, which is stacked with experienced attacking options in the Premier League.
Speaking to Fotbollskanalen, Kusi-Asare admitted the step up and competition for places have made his adaptation more challenging than expected.
“We have some experienced strikers who have been in the Premier League for many years, so it is difficult to come in and take a place. But he sees that I am developing and when there is something I am missing, he tells me. I just try to work on it and I know that playing time will come with time,” he said.
He also reflected on his long-term future and the uncertainty surrounding his situation at the London club.
“I know they can buy me, but I haven’t thought much about it. I like it over there, it’s a good environment for me but it’s ultimately up to the club,” he added.
“Maybe it would have been good for my career to go down a step, so I can take a starting spot. But it depends on what the clubs have planned for me. We’ll see what the future holds,” he continued.
Despite the slow start, Kusi-Asare remains focused on development, hoping increased opportunities will come as he continues to adapt to English football.
