Ghana national football team defender Baba Rahman is reportedly in line for a return to international football after being contacted by new head coach Carlos Queiroz as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Sources suggest that Queiroz has personally reached out to the experienced left-back as he looks to reinforce key areas of his squad ahead of a demanding qualification and tournament build-up period. The coach is believed to be seeking early clarity on Rahman’s availability as he works within a tight preparation schedule.
Rahman has been absent from the national team since September 2023, when he featured in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Central African Republic at the Baba Yara Stadium. Shortly after, he stepped away from international duty to focus on recovery and rebuilding his fitness at club level with Greek side PAOK FC.
The 31-year-old also missed Ghana’s 2023 AFCON squad, opting out to prioritise his rehabilitation following injury setbacks—a decision that came after facing criticism during his last appearances for the Black Stars.
Despite his absence, Rahman remains one of Ghana’s most experienced defenders, having earned 52 caps between 2014 and 2023, scoring twice. He was also part of the squad that featured at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Ghana will return to the global stage for their fifth World Cup appearance in 2026, where they have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, Croatia, and England.
With squad planning intensifying, Queiroz is assessing experienced options to balance his team, and Rahman could be recalled if he commits to competing for a place in the final squad.
