Ghana international Kwasi Sibo is closing in on a move to Turkish Super Lig side Gençlerbirliği after agreeing personal terms, despite receiving a lucrative $10 million offer from an unnamed Libyan club.
The 28-year-old midfielder has reached an agreement with the Turkish outfit on a two-year contract, which includes an option to extend his stay by a further year.
Under the proposed deal, Sibo is expected to earn approximately €1 million per season, with Gençlerbirliği emerging as his preferred destination despite receiving significantly more lucrative offers elsewhere.
Sources indicate that an unnamed Libyan club tabled a remarkable four-year package worth $10 million, including a $2 million signing-on bonus, making it one of the most lucrative offers presented to the Ghanaian midfielder during the current transfer window.
Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly also entered the race for Sibo’s signature, offering a two-year contract reportedly worth $1.5 million per year, with an option to extend the agreement for an additional season.
However, despite the financial attraction of both the Libyan and Egyptian proposals, Sibo has opted to prioritise his sporting ambitions and believes a move to Turkey offers the ideal platform for the next stage of his career.
The midfielder is understood to be impressed by Gençlerbirliği’s project and sees the opportunity to compete in the Turkish Super Lig as a significant step in his professional development.
Sibo is currently a free agent after leaving Spanish club Real Oviedo, where he spent the past two seasons and played an instrumental role in helping the club secure promotion to La Liga.
His consistent performances in Spain, coupled with his displays for the Black Stars, have attracted interest from several clubs across Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
With personal terms already agreed, Gençlerbirliği are now working to finalise the remaining details before announcing the Ghanaian midfielder as their latest signing.
If the deal is completed, Sibo will have turned down one of the biggest financial offers of his career in favour of a move driven by footballing ambition, with the expectation of becoming a key figure in Gençlerbirliği’s midfield for the upcoming season.
